Retrofit Services

Our Controls Retrofit group has extensive experience integrating numerous makes and models of CNC and PLC controls to a variety of complex and conventional machines; including but not limited to:  gantry mills, horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills, machining centers, grinders, turning centers and lathes.

In most cases, a complete retrofit will involve the replacement of an existing antiquated control. New servo motors and drive amplifiers are sized to match the machine’s capabilities. A new operators pendant and magnetic panel typically accompany a complete retrofit.

Additionally, all existing wiring is stripped from the machine and disgarded. New wire is properly sized and integrated to the machine. Generally, the existing motor starter main disconnect and limit switches are retained and new kits installed, along with pressure switches and thermal switches.

All mechanical brackets and adaptors, required to complete the retrofit process will be provided. Defective sealtite, cord grips, etc. will be replaced.

MTSU provides a complete set of documentation with each retrofit completed. Our integrators are capable of performing retrofits to a variety of manufacturing controls. Through a cooperative relationship with our alliance partners, we are able to expand this selection.

MTSU has experience with state of the art PC based control products. Many of the PC based control products allow you to use some of the existing drives, motors and wiring; thereby, reducing the cost that is typical with a complete retrofit.

Prior to quoting a “control only” retrofit, MTSU will request that a thorough electrical inspection of the machine be performed to insure its candidacy.
